Ice conditions on Lake Gogebic are great right now. Recommended method of travel is with snowmobile. Walleye fishing is open through March 15 while Perch fishing remains open all year.
The Gogebic Lodge Fishing Tournament is this weekend and the Hog-A-Thon is next weekend. We are stocked with wigglers, wax worms, fatheads and sucker minnows. Wigglers is the preferred bait for anglers specifically targeting Perch.
Fishing has been fairly good this past week with reports of some really nice Perch being caught and even a few Walleye. People are targeting them in the deeper parts of the lake with a mud bottom. Some walleye are being caught in deep water near bottom while other anglers are targeting them in shallow weed in low light conditions under tip ups. The most common bait of choice is the sucker minnow but some people are finding some success using different jigging techniques.
Expect the bite to get better as we approach spring like conditions. Remember while you are out there ice fishing to practice select harvest. We need to protect the resource in which we are taking from, take your time bringing those perch up out of deep water so they don’t blow their air bag and you can release them.
We have some availability left for these two weekends – give us a call at 906-575-3557 or send us an email!
Good luck, good fishing and be safe!
