The Inaugural Walleye Lodge Father’s Day Fishing Tournament took place on Saturday, June 17th on Lake Gogebic. This new event brought out more than 30 anglers who challenged the weather to bring home their trophy bass! The day started out beautiful and stayed that way for most of the day – but a strong hail storm in the late afternoon forced many into cover for what was a wild but thankfully brief storm! The bite was tough but these determined fishermen brought in some beautiful fish which were successfully released back into Lake Gogebic. The first place Bass was Bob Kokkonen of Chassel, MI with his 19.5” Bass. Bob was camping at the County Park when he found out about the tournament and never expected to catch a $500 fish on his weekend away! 2nd place went to Jake Ansama from Ironwood with a 19” 3.5 lb Bass; 3rd place was awarded to Jeremy Deroso from Ironwood with a 19” 3.29 lb. Bass, 4th place went to Ryon Alloway with a 19” 3.28 lb. Bass; 5th place winner was Justin Soffa with a 18 ¾” 3.38 lb. Bass, 6th place was Shane Ranta with a 18 ¾” 3.2 lb. Bass, 7th place went to the youngest winning angler – 10 year old Conner Cousineau of Lake Gogebic with an 18 2.12 lb Bass; 8th place was awarded to Tyler Gottschalk with an 18” 2.11 lb Bass and the 9th place winner was Russ Clyde with a 17 ¾” 2.1 lb Bass. The tournament ended with a party at the Walleye Lodge and the weather cooperated to allow for a great evening. Congratulations to all the winners and a huge thank you to all the participants. Special thanks goes out to Shelly and Les from the Bergland Bay Bar, Maggie Brown, Karen Gullan, Melissa LeGault and Lisa & Eli Nordine! Together – we made this event a success and we will look forward to an event better event next Father’s Day!
